Stop Breathing My Skin

STOP BREATHING MY SKIN!

Airborne dead skin cells abound in every home and office

It is not a very pleasant thought, but each day we breathe in the flaking dead skin cells of our colleagues, friends and even strangers.
Human skin is being shed and replenished all the time. When we are at work or at home we eat, sleep and work in a soup of billions of dead skin cells. These cells can cause allergic reactions to those who are sensitive to them. Dead skin cells contain bacteria.

'Many people find it hard to believe that they get this up close and personal with their colleagues’ skin' says Matthew Barnett of ACRE Solutions Air Conditioning. Matthew goes on to explain that the phenomenon can be demonstrated by simply looking at the 'dust' floating around in a stream of sunlight.

As if breathing in the discarded skin of complete strangers wasn’t bad enough some of the dead skin cells find their way to the carpet. The cells accumulate and become a banquet for house dust mites, a very real trigger for asthma and eczema. The dust mites feast on the dead skin, breed, eat and breed some more.

So what can be done to eliminate the dust mites and its food source? Regular vacuum cleaning of carpets will certainly help, as will regular wiping down of surfaces prone to dust collection. Airborne dust particles can be effectively dealt with by installing room air conditioning. Matthew explains, 'air conditioning isn’t just about cooling rooms, it is also a very effective way of removing dead skin cells and other allergens from the environment'

Enjoy your lunch!
